Jennifer Hudson Teams Up with 7-Eleven in Chicago for Boys & Girls Clubs event

Jennifer Hudson visited the Valentine Boys & Girls Club yesterday morning. She was promoting a national 7-Eleven partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of America called “Cup With a Cause” in which sales of a Jennifer Hudson designed, beverage-filled cup, will benefit BGCA. In addition, because of her strong ties to Chicago, she has asked that up to $50,000 of these proceeds be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago. During the program, members from various Clubs performed singing and dancing routines which Jennifer received warmly. She even shared, during a question and answer period with the children, that she first knew she wanted to perform after participating in a Boys & Girls Club talent show when she was a young girl.

It truly was an inspirational event. The children were able to see someone from a tough Chicago neighborhood who, with support, was able to follow her dream. As someone new to the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago, I can see how our organization makes achieving these types of dreams possible for others.

There was a great deal of media coverage including WGN (click here to see video) and NBC local news, as well as print media.

Eighth annual Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Game

The eighth annual Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Game takes place at Denver's INVESCO Field at Mile High on Thursday, July 16th.

While the League has implemented an "East" vs. "West" format for the past two seasons, this year's game will return to the popular "Old School" vs. "Young Guns" format which was featured in the 2005 All-Star Game, which also took place in Denver. The "Young Guns" squad is comprised of players from the 2007-2009 classes, while the "Old School" squad will be made up by those players from the classes prior to and including 2006.

Your Chicago Machine will be represented in Denver with six players in the game. Attacker Kevin Leveille, middie Matt Striebel, face-off specialist Anthony Kelly, defenseman DJ Driscoll, and goalie Mike Gabel will be suiting up for the "Old School" squad, while Chicago rookie, Kenny Nims, will take the field for the "Young Guns."

Since 2006, Major League Lacrosse, with the generous support of the New Balance Foundation, has raised over $125,000 for charity through the online auctioning of limited-edition, autographed All-Star Game items.

This season, the autographed jerseys of each of the 38 players appearing in the 2009 All-Star Game will be auctioned to benefit Boys and Girls Clubs in participating MLL markets.
