In partnership with the Chicago Blackhawks and Olympic medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield from the USA Women’s National Hockey team, and the Schofield Family Foundation, we hosted the first-ever BGCC floor hockey tournament.

Four teams competed for the top prize during a non-school day at our Valentine Boys & Girls Club. It was a culmination of practice throughout the summer, where the Blackhawks hosted training clinics for our staff and Club members.

The championship game was one to remember, as the home team Valentine Club came from behind to score a game-tying goal with less than a minute left. They won in a shootout to claim the championship. Tommy Hawk, the Blackhawks mascot, presented them with the championship trophy that will be passed from Club to Club at each year’s tournament, just like the Stanley Cup!

When the Clubs weren’t competing in the gym, they were in the auditorium making cheer signs for their Club, doing skills challenges, and got to visit with Schofield as she passed around her three Olympic medals.
