Club Volunteerism
Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago (BGCC) volunteers serve a critical role by motivating youth, ages 6-18, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. These caring adults spend quality time interacting with Club members fostering a safe, fun environment centered on supportive relationships. As little as one hour per week is all it takes to have a positive impact on a child’s life. That's why every BGCC Club offers volunteer opportunities for positive adult role models to work directly with youth as mentors, tutors, provide career guidance, homework help, promote a healthy lifestyle, physical activity and support daily programming.

All individuals interested in volunteering must be at least 18 years of age and commit at least one hour per week for the academic year. Clubs need the most volunteer support after school during the hours of 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. and some operate until 8 p.m. Individuals interested in an ongoing capacity must attend a volunteer orientation and submit the following:

  • Volunteer Application
  • Resume
  • Complete Criminal Background Check (Including a Fingerprint)
  • Mandated Reporter Training Certificate of Completion

Special Volunteer Opportunities
Over the course of the year, our Clubs host a variety of events where one-time volunteer support is needed. These Special Volunteer Opportunities usually occur on evenings and weekends and don’t require a long-term commitment. These opportunities are ideal for volunteers who are not able to become regular club volunteers because of limited availability or for volunteers who want to extend their involvement with Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago.

Volunteers can choose the volunteer opportunity that works best for their passion, skills, or schedule as many projects last just two - four hours. Depending on the nature of the volunteer project and to ensure the safety of the youth BGCC serves, volunteers may have to complete a criminal background check.
