For the second straight year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago partnered with Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy to expose our Club members to the travel industry and explore the Western states of Wyoming and Idaho.
The Club members who participated completed a number of activities, from horseback riding to hiking to whitewater rafting to yoga and mindfulness sessions, to visiting local businesses, and so much more. These young people encountered a variety of experiences.
Throughout the 10-day adventure, they connected with each other, nature, and themselves. To read about how this once-in-a-lifetime trip impacted them, click through the photos below and read their captions about their experiences.

"Everything was green, it smelled fresh, the sun was beaming over the entire landscape, the mountains were always in the background no matter how far it was." - Nigel

“What surprised me the most was the scenery. The stars at night, sometimes when you wake up in the middle of the night you can just go on the back porch and just take a breather.” - Leslie

"The meditation and yoga sessions were one of my biggest takeaways from this trip. Learning how to reset the body and mind using these techniques has allowed me to be more productive in my everyday life." - Tai

“I have gained just perspective on general life. I’ve gone through a lot of life already at a young age. … I think being out here has mellowed me out a lot.” - Dhati

“I learned I can be more goofy when I’m not home. I can be more adventurous. I can actually push myself to do something. … I saw that I can still push myself even if I didn’t want to continue.” - Leslie

“That waterfall hike, I had never done anything like that. Especially being in the waterfall. Then we climbed the waterfall, that was fun.” - Dhati

"The rodeo was a cool and unique experience. Living in the city, I don't get to see things like horseback riding and bull riding. So, it was cool to see real-life cowboys in action. It was impressive to see how much the community embraced this tradition and how it brings everyone together." - Tai

“I really enjoyed the horses. It was calm, just being with the animals.” - Leslie

"I've been rock climbing before but this time there was a twist, it was someone in our group that had to make sure we didn't fall. It was a very big trust exercise, especially for me since I barely knew anyone. I had to put complete trust in my peers and my peers had to do the same to me." - Nigel

"The cave hike was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. You just had to be there to experience it for yourself. Words can't explain how massive and amazing it was. It really put the whole trip into perspective, and made me feel a sense of gratitude for the whole experience." - Tai

"The Snowboard shop was one of my personal favorite parts. The owner of the shop knew what he wanted to do, he had a dream and made it into reality his way. ... Quality over quantity was the lesson I learned from him for small businesses." - Nigel

“I didn’t come here with much expectations, but it exceeded them. And the people on the trip were incredible.” - Leslie
