Chicago Sports Teams Bring Holiday Joy to BGCC Members; Gifts, Experiences, and Memories to Last a Lifetime

“This is the happiest day ever!” a Club member exclaimed, hugging her new Build-A-Bear stuffed animal—a gift made possible by Chicago Bulls player Torrey Craig’s foundation.

The holiday season brought an outpouring of generosity from Chicago’s sports teams and athletes, creating unforgettable moments for Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago members:

  • Build-A-Bear Experience: For the second year, Torrey Craig hosted Club members at a Build-A-Bear Workshop, followed by a pizza party.
  • Toy Store Shopping Spree: Bulls teammate Nikola Vucevic treated 15 kids to a $250 shopping spree, where many chose gifts for family and friends.
  • Flyover Ride at Navy Pier: Chicago Bears player Jaylon Johnson delighted kids with a trip to Navy Pier and gifts, though Santa stole the spotlight.
  • Holiday Cheer for Families: Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards surprised a Club family with holiday gifts, sparking smiles and tears of gratitude.

Additionally, we were thrilled when Bears players Braxton Jones and Rome Odunze chose Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago as their nonprofit for the NFL’s annual My Cause My Cleats initiative during the Thanksgiving holiday. Check out their cleats here—they are pretty slick!

The Chicago Sky and Chicago Red Stars also hosted a Girl’s Day of Play during Thanksgiving break, empowering young girls with basketball and soccer clinics.

“These experiences make our members feel seen and valued during what can be a challenging season,” said Marco DeLaRosa, BGCC Chief Program Officer. “We’re deeply grateful to our generous partners for creating moments our kids will never forget.”
