The Pedersen-McCormick Boys & Girls Club has been an anchor of hope, fun and stability in the lives of Chicago’s Uptown Community youth since 1958 with the support of the Robert R. McCormick Charitable Trust, Senator W. Russell Arrington, W. Clement Stone and area businesses and residents. In 2013, it was renamed the Pedersen-McCormick Club in honor of one of its longtime and arden supporters Peer Pedersen. The Club today serves 1,000 members annually and 250 members age 6-18 daily.
About The Neighborhood
The Pedersen-McCormick Club serves youth from a variety of communities, including Uptown, Lincoln Square (including the Ravenswood neighborhood), and Edgewater. Uptown borders Foster on the north; Lake Michigan on the east; Montrose and Irving Park on the south; Ravenswood and Clark on the west. The Uptown neighborhood consists of the following neighborhoods including Buena Park, Margate Park, Sheridan Park, Little Vietnam, and Andersonville Terrace. This neighborhood is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Chicago. Edgewater includes historic districts (like the Bryn Mawr Historic District) and Edgewater Beach, which houses a skyline of high-rise apartment buildings, condominium complexes, and mid-rise homes. Western Edgewater is characterized by commercial businesses, single-family homes, and two-, three-, or four-story flats, including the historic neighborhood of Andersonville. Ravenswood to the west of Uptown has one of Chicago’s historic and creative neighborhoods, boasting a stretch of crafty shops and restaurants amidst the Metra corridor.
