The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago (BGCC) floor hockey program is a year into programming since BGCC partnered with the Chicago Blackhawks and the Schofield Family Foundation to give kids more access to the sport.

After hockey practices to build up their skills and two tournaments, the two BGCC championship floor hockey teams got a special treat in earlier this month. The Blackhawks new NHL draft prospects visited them for a day of play and fun, including Blackhawks No. 1 pick Connor Bedard.

The Blackhawks players participated in a weeklong development camp, which included visiting the James R. Jordan Club, where they played skills games with the kids, relay races, and scrimmages. Out of all the activities the players did that week, including a Chicago Cubs game and comedy show, Bedard said visiting BGCC was his favorite.

“I liked the clinic we did with the kids yesterday," Bedard told media outlets. “It was a lot of fun. We played a little floor hockey and got to talk to them and see their excitement when we came. It was pretty cool.”

Our Club members had just as much fun. They asked him questions about being the first overall pick, what it’s like to be in the NHL, and some silly ones, like his favorite actress. Members even got his autograph at the end of the session.

They also didn’t shy away from trying to take the puck from him either!

“We won so much, we’re too good,” said Club member Armand, who was on Bedard’s team.
